ParticipAction is clinging on. We need money to replace greenhouses, we need rain to water the plants and we need volunteers to inspire, motivate and pull out weeds. Can you help?

Time seems to fly as much when you’re busy as when you’re having fun. And lately work has kept me very busy and away from the fun at Stainsacre. It is a hectic time of year in the garden- sowing seeds and then pricking them out, rearranging the greenhouse twice weekly to accomodate yet more plants, then moving them into the poly tunnel or cold frame; all this in preparation for the annual plant event which this year will be on 17th May.
But, you have to take my word for all that because Wordpress is playing up and won’t let me upload any pictures! Or better still, come and see for yourself. Volunteers, green fingered or not, are always very welcome on any Tuesday or Friday morning, and it is the AGM, this Friday at 12.30 in Stainsacre Hall.
Then you could be busy and having fun too.

Well, January brought snow and cold and more snow and we all began to ask ourselves whether we couldn’t find better things to do on Tuesday and Friday mornings. As half term approached we wondered how we were going to occupy our visitors from Rotherham if the weather didn’t improve. But on the day, everything went to plan. Twelve students and four adult helpers from Rawmarsh Community School who had spent the week in Whitby, giving up their holiday and volunteering at a number of projects, joined us for the morning .

Many of us clambered down the bank and cleared rubbish that has been there for years, sorting it into wood, plastic, metal and glass for safe disposal. Everyone worked really hard and some people didn’t even fall over!
Others helped in the potting shed, planting onion sets and filling seed trays with compost.
So, we are ready for some new beginnings- a bank that’s been spring cleaned and seed trays good to go. Roll on the sowing season and some more fine weather.
…And when the work was done, it was thanks toStainsacre Hall for laying on hot drinks and somewhere to sit down before our cheerful volunteers set off back to Rotherham.
