Summer Sunflower Competition 2006

The Annual sunflower competition was a close run thing this year with only a a few centimeters between most of the competitors. The eventual winner was Heather who just sneaked Sean's gigantic effort in the last couple of days of the competition. The Prize for the sunflower with the biggest head was won by Michelle.

Farewell To Sue !

The start of the summer saw Sue Hodgeson, one of the Participaction founder members, leave the project and set off on a round the world voyage with her partner Dave. It was a tearful moment for all to see Sue a great friend to everyone at Participaction leave after so long at the project. Currently Sue and Dave are in Ireland and plan to head off into the Med for the Winter months. Anyone wanting to read about Sue and Dave's adventures can do so at their blog (internet diary) called Yaucht Fiona by clicking here

Dennis' ambitition is to have his own plot of land at the garden and perhaps learn how to grow flowers

Water Project Complete

The project to collect water from the drainage area at Stainsacre is now  complete. Under the supervision of Tony Murphy project members have set up large water Troughs to collect drainage water in the woodland at the bottom of the participaction site at Stainsacre.

The water is then pumped (generator powered) to the water butts on site.

Guttering and and drain pipes leading to onsite water butts have also been erected.

Marrows Gone Mad

The early season heatwave followed by a damp but warm spell through August has given perfect conditions for the courgettes and marrows. This Wheel barrow full is just a a small percentage of this years fine crop.

Plant Sale

Despite the horrendous weather at this years annual bedding plant sale, at our site in Stainsacre, sales were better than ever. An Excellent turnout from the public meant that yet again most of our plants were sold over the 2 days of the sale. Participaction would like to thank Nicky and all involved for braving the weather this year and making the sale a fantastic success.
